Polyalkylene Glycol Thickener

Pluracol V 5 Polyalkene Glycol Thickener is a viscous, high molecular weight liquid used as a thickener in water-glycol fire-resistant hydraulic fluids. Its application is based on low volatility and high viscosity, and it is utilized in the following areas: water-based hydraulic fluids, polymer-type quenching agents, high-temperature lubricants, and water-based lubricants. For fire-resistant hydraulic fluids: The use of Pluracol V 5 in fire-resistant hydraulic fluids provides other significant advantages. These water-glycol solutions exhibit Newtonian rheological properties similar to petroleum lubricating oils, are non-thixotropic, non-dilatant, non-viscous or non-sticky, possess an extremely high viscosity index, do not separate under normal use and storage conditions, respond to anti-corrosion additives (Pluracol V 5 itself is non-corrosive), and respond to anti-wear agents to enhance the lubricating characteristics of Pluracol V 5; thus, it is suitable for water-glycol type fire-resistant hydraulic fluids. For quenching agents: Pluracol V 5 thickener is soluble in cold water and separates from water at temperatures above approximately 75°C (reversible solubility). In metal quenching agent formulations, the unique ability of Pluracol V 5 thickener to separate from the solution allows the thickener to coat the metal surface, producing a controlled cooling rate, which is necessary to achieve desired properties in the metal. As a polymer-type quenching agent, it is primarily used in combination with Pluracol V-10 to control the quenching speed.
