Description
Additional Information

TAF (Anti-Glass Fiber Exposure Agent)

I. Main Properties:

1. Excellent miscibility in PBT, PA, and PC.

2. Good affinity with glass fibers and inorganic fillers.

3. Excellent encapsulation of glass fibers in glass fiber-modified materials to prevent fiber exposure.

4. Provides good surface gloss and lubricity to products.

5. Reduces mechanical wear.

II. Applications and Usage:

With the continuous development and demands of industrial production, plastic-modified products are playing an increasingly important role in the plastics industry. In plastic modification, physically filled glass fiber-reinforced materials offer high tensile strength, dimensional stability, heat resistance, and good electrical properties. As a result, glass fiber-reinforced materials such as PET, PBT, PA, PC, ABS, AS, and PP have seen significant development in recent years. The drawback of glass fiber-reinforced materials is glass fiber exposure, rough product surfaces, and severe wear on machining equipment. Therefore, lubricants play a crucial role in processing. The TAF lubricant produced by our factory can prevent glass fiber exposure, improve processing fluidity, reduce screw torque, and enhance the surface smoothness of products in glass fiber-reinforced plastics. Due to its excellent thermal stability, it is suitable for use in almost all engineering plastics. TAF can also be used as a dispersant in color masterbatches for polyesters, polycarbonates, nylons, etc.

● Mainly used in glass fiber-reinforced nylon (PA6/PA66), PBT, PET, PP, ABS, and PC products to prevent glass fiber exposure while increasing surface gloss. Enhances product fluidity, mold release, moisture resistance, anti-settling, anti-contamination, anti-static, and dispersibility. Reduces processing temperature by 3-5°C, decreases screw torque, reduces machine wear, extends machine service life, and saves energy. Dosage: 0.5-0.8-1%.

● Dispersant for ABS dyeing and polyester color masterbatches. Dosage: 0.5% for dyeing; 0.3-0.5% for masterbatches.

● Dispersant for nano-TiO₂ masterbatches in nano-TiO₂/HIPS/PA composite materials. Dosage: 0.3-0.5%.

The above dosages are for reference only and should be adjusted based on the customer's actual conditions.

IV. Structural Features and Properties of TAF Lubricant:

● TAF is based on ethylene bis fatty acid amide with the introduction of polar groups. This structure is a low molecular weight BAB-type copolymer. Glass fibers are generally surface-treated with silane coupling agents. The polar groups of TAF and the long-chain ends of silane coupling agents generate strong attraction through van der Waals forces. This attraction is sufficient to eliminate the interface between the two phases, forming a single phase. The solvating chain segments of TAF have certain compatibility with the matrix resin, allowing TAF to act as a compatibilizer. Thus, anchor-like crosslinking points are formed between the glass fibers and the base resin, improving the bonding state between the glass fibers and the resin. The increased thickness of the mechanical interaction layer between the glass fiber surface and the matrix resin makes the matrix near the glass fiber surface more prone to shear yielding, enhancing the absorption and dissipation of impact energy and promoting the toughening effect between the glass fibers and the matrix resin. Since the glass fibers are well encapsulated in the resin, they flow synchronously with the resin during processing, reducing the likelihood of separation and significantly minimizing exposed glass fibers. This, in turn, reduces friction between the glass fibers and the screw, lowering screw torque.

● TAF has strong adsorption with other coupling agents such as titanate and aluminate coupling agents. It acts as a solubilizer in filled masterbatches, such as those filled with calcium carbonate, talc, etc. When combined with titanate coupling agents, TAF turns brownish-red, making it unsuitable for products requiring light colors.

● TAF has good binding ability with inorganic pigments, making it suitable as a dispersant in nylon, polyester, and polycarbonate color masterbatches. Since color masterbatches do not require high mechanical strength but only good dispersibility, TAF can be used without coupling agents in these products.
