Ethylene Oxide (EO) is a very simple cyclic ether, belonging to the class of heterocyclic compounds, and is an important petrochemical product. At low temperatures, ethylene oxide is a colorless transparent liquid, while at room temperature, it is a colorless gas with an ether-like pungent odor. The gas has a high vapor pressure, reaching up to 141 kPa at 30°C. This high vapor pressure determines its strong penetration ability during fumigation and disinfection.
