Introduction to Hastelloy B

Hastelloy B alloy has the following characteristics:Controls iron and chromium elements at the lowest levels to prevent the formation of β-phase Ni4Mo. Excellent corrosion resistance in reducing environments. Outstanding resistance to corrosion by moderate concentrations of sulfuric acid and many non-oxidizing acids. Good resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Excellent resistance to various organic acids.

Metallurgical Structure of Hastelloy B:

Hastelloy B has a face-centered cubic lattice structure. By minimizing iron and chromium content, it reduces processing brittleness and prevents the precipitation of Ni4Mo phase between 700-870°C.

Corrosion Resistance of Hastelloy B: The nickel-molybdenum alloy Hastelloy B has extremely low carbon and silicon content, reducing the precipitation of carbon and other impurity phases in the weld heat-affected zone, thus ensuring sufficient corrosion resistance in the weld. Alloy Hastelloy B-2 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in reducing media, such as hydrochloric acid solutions of various temperatures and concentrations. It also shows good corrosion resistance in moderate concentrations of sulfuric acid (or with a certain amount of chloride ions). Additionally, it can be used in acetic and phosphoric acid environments. The alloy material achieves optimal corrosion resistance only with suitable metallurgical conditions and a pure crystal structure.

Applications of Hastelloy B: Alloy Hastelloy B is widely used in chemical, petrochemical, energy manufacturing, and pollution control fields, particularly in industries involving sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, etc.

Chemical Composition of Hastelloy B:

Available in various specifications including plates, bars, strips, wires, discs, ring blanks, and ring forgings. Bars are supplied in forged-rolled condition, surface polished or turned; discs and ring blanks are supplied in forged condition; rings are supplied in solution-treated condition; plates are supplied after solution treatment, alkali pickling, straightening, and edge trimming; strips are delivered cold-rolled, solution-treated, and descaled; wires are supplied in solution-pickled coil or straight lengths, or solution-treated straight lengths with fine polishing.
