Dibutyl sebacate (DBS) is an important cold-resistant plasticizer and functional chemical, with its main applications as follows:

I. Core Applications in Polymer Plasticization

1. Cold-Resistant Plasticizer

   • Acts as a primary plasticizer for synthetic rubbers (e.g., nitrile rubber, neoprene) and plastics (PVC, ABS, PS, PC), imparting excellent low-temperature flexibility (maintains elasticity at -55°C) and oil resistance;
   • Suitable for food-contact-grade packaging materials (e.g., PVDF plastic films), artificial leather, wire and cable sheathing, etc., yielding non-toxic products with a soft texture.

   Drawback: Prone to extraction by water/detergents and has high volatility, requiring combination with phthalate plasticizers.

2. Rubber Processing Aid

   • Enhances the cold resistance and processing fluidity of rubber products without affecting the vulcanization process; used in automotive seals, cold-resistant hoses, etc.

II. Specialty Chemicals and Industrial Auxiliaries

1. Fragrance Formulation

   • Possesses a light fruity and oily scent, used in blending fruit flavors (e.g., apple, pear) for food flavorings and daily chemical products.

2. Solvent and Lubricant

   • Dissolves cellulose, rosin, and other resins, serving as a solvent component in high-performance coatings and inks;
   • Functions as a low-temperature-resistant component in propellants and synthetic lubricants for jet engines.

3. Research and Testing

   • Used as a stationary phase in gas chromatography for the separation and analysis of organic compounds.
