Ethyl Acetoacetate (C₆H₁₀O₃) Product Introduction and Applications

1. Physical Properties

   • Colorless transparent liquid with a pleasant fruity aroma, density approximately 1.0282 g/cm³ (20°C);
   • Boiling point 180.4-190.2°C, flash point 84.4°C (closed cup);
   • Soluble in organic solvents, slightly soluble in water.

2. Chemical Properties

   • Contains β-ketoester structure, exhibiting keto-enol tautomerism (keto form 93%, enol form 7%);
   • Decolorizes with bromine, shows purple-red color with ferric chloride (enol form characteristic), flammable, and requires storage away from light.

II. Core Applications

 1. Organic Synthesis Intermediate

• Pharmaceutical Field: Synthesis of aminopyrine, vitamin B, anticoagulant neocoumarin, and fungicide hymexazol, among others;
• Pesticide Production: Preparation of insecticide coumaphos, herbicide imazethapyr, and rodenticide intermediates.

2. Fragrances and Dyes

• Blending of fruity flavors such as apple, apricot, and peach, enhancing the aroma of alcoholic beverages (rum, whiskey, etc.);
• Synthesis of azo yellow dyes and pigment yellow intermediates.

• Coatings/Inks: Dissolves nitrocellulose, improves film leveling and drying speed;
• Cleaning Agents: Removes grease and resin residues, used for metal paint stripping.

• Cosmetic fragrances (e.g., gardenia type) and food flavor solubilizer (must comply with GB 2760 standards).
