Dimethyl phthalate

I. Product Characteristics

1. Physical Properties
   Dimethyl phthalate (DMP) is a colorless or pale yellow oily liquid with an aromatic odor. It is slightly soluble in water and readily soluble in organic solvents.

2. Chemical Performance
   It exhibits strong solubility for materials such as cellulose resins and rubber, with good film-forming, adhesive, and waterproofing properties. However, it has high volatility and relatively poor durability.

II. Main Applications

Plasticizer Applications

• Plastics and Resins:
  • Used as a plasticizer for PVC and cellulose resins (such as cellulose acetate) in the production of films, varnishes, transparent paper, and other materials;
  • Applied in small amounts to nitrocellulose to improve flexibility.

• Rubber Industry: Enhances the elasticity of rubber products, used in seals, hoses, etc.

Solvent and Other Fields

• Coatings and Mosquito Repellents:
  • Used as a solvent for peroxide cross-linking agents and anticorrosive coatings;
  • Main component of mosquito repellent oil (crude oil).
• Daily Chemicals: Used in cosmetics such as nail polish and perfumes to reduce volatility and extend fragrance retention.

III. Safety and Environmental Protection

1. Toxicity Risks:
   It has endocrine-disrupting properties and may affect reproductive health. Direct contact should be avoided.
2. Operational Protection:
   Ensure ventilation during production or use and wear protective equipment.

Note: Due to health risks, environmentally friendly alternatives are gradually being sought in some fields.
