Ethylene Carbonate Product Introduction and Applications

I. Product Characteristics

1. Physical Properties

   • Colorless crystal at room temperature, melting point 35-38°C, becomes transparent liquid after melting, boiling point 248.2°C, density approximately 1.3 g/cm³;
   • Strong polar solvent (dipole moment 4.9D), easily soluble in water and most organic solvents.

2. Chemical Properties

   • Contains a five-membered cyclic carbonate structure, chemical formula C₃H₄O₃, molecular weight 88.06;
   • High stability, capable of participating in reactions such as transesterification and chlorination.

II. Core Applications

 1. Lithium Battery Electrolyte

• Used as a core solvent to enhance battery cycle life and low-temperature performance, often combined with dimethyl carbonate.

2. Chemical Intermediate

• Production of Dimethyl Carbonate: Prepared via transesterification, further used to synthesize polycarbonates and electrolytes;
• Substitute for Ethylene Oxide: Safely participates in reactions such as carbon dioxide fixation.

3. Industrial Solvent

• Dissolves polymer materials, used in plastic processing, textile spinning, and ink additives;
• Removes acidic gases from natural gas and industrial exhaust gases.

 4. Other Applications

• Lubricants: Serves as an active intermediate to enhance high-temperature resistance and stability;
• Building Materials: Improves performance as a concrete additive;
• Pharmaceutical Synthesis: Used in the preparation of drugs such as furazolidone;
• Specialty Additives: Includes textile antistatic agents, petroleum additives, foaming agents, etc.

III. Precautions

• Must be stored sealed and protected from light; wear protective equipment during operation.
