Overview: Sodium hydrosulfide is used in the dye industry for synthesizing organic intermediates and preparing auxiliary agents for sulfur dyes, in the tanning industry for depilating raw hides and tanning leather, in the fertilizer industry for removing monomeric sulfur from activated carbon desulfurizing agents, in the mining industry extensively for copper ore beneficiation, and in the production of artificial fibers for sulfur dyeing, among other applications. It is a raw material for producing ammonium sulfide and the semi-finished product of the pesticide ethanethiol, and is also used in wastewater treatment. The production process of sodium hydrosulfide is relatively mature, but with the development of various economic forms and increasingly fierce competition, there is a demand to produce higher quality and more products with as low an input as possible. Currently, the preparation method for sodium hydrosulfide is the caustic soda absorption method, which requires relatively pure hydrogen sulfide gas as the raw material. It is mainly produced by reacting the tail gas from barium chloride production with sodium hydroxide solution to obtain sodium hydrosulfide. The caustic soda method for producing sodium hydrosulfide requires that the raw material gas contain no carbon dioxide. If the raw material gas contains carbon dioxide, sodium carbonate will be generated during the production process: NaOH + CO2 → Na2CO3 + H2O. The formation of sodium carbonate not only reduces the yield of caustic soda but also affects the quality of sodium hydrosulfide, impacting its use by customers. If the carbon dioxide content exceeds 10%, it can also clog equipment and pipelines during production, preventing normal operation.

Chemical Properties: Colorless needle-like crystals, easily deliquescent. Industrial products are generally solutions, appearing orange or yellow. Easily soluble in water and alcohol, aqueous solution is strongly alkaline.

Production Method: Absorption method uses sulfide solution (or caustic soda solution) to absorb hydrogen sulfide gas. Since hydrogen sulfide gas is toxic, the absorption reaction should be carried out under negative pressure. To prevent the tail gas from containing excessively high levels of hydrogen sulfide and polluting the air, multiple absorbers are operated in series during production, with multiple absorptions to reduce the hydrogen sulfide content to a low level. The absorption liquid is concentrated to obtain sodium hydrosulfide. The reactions are: H2S + NaOH → NaHS + H2O; H2S + Na2S → 2NaHS
