Introduction to the H-Point:

In automotive design, the H-point (hip-point) serves as a reference point that accurately determines the position of the driver or passenger in the seat. This reference point is the rotational joint connecting the torso and the thigh (hip point). The actual measured position of the "hip point" in a vehicle is referred to as the H-point. After the driver is seated, most of their body weight is applied to the seat cushion through the hips, some is supported by the backrest through the back, and a small portion is exerted on the steering wheel and floor via the left and right hands and feet. In this seated posture, any movement of the upper body during operation necessarily rotates around the horizontal axis of the H-point. Therefore, the position of the H-point determines the interior dimension benchmarks related to the driver's operational convenience and riding comfort. The H-point is the connection point between the human torso and the thigh, i.e., the hip point. It is one of the most critical reference points in automotive design. With the H-point manikin, the H-point position can be quickly determined, after which the overall layout process of the vehicle and systems commences.
