Dummy Abdominal Pressure Transducer APTS

The APTS sensor is a crucial tool for in-depth evaluation of child and adult restraint systems. It is a unique sensor designed to assess abdominal injuries and predict submarining occupant safety. Its use is mandated by UNECE Regulation No. R129, which replaces UNECE Regulation No. R44.

Furthermore, most NCAP programs worldwide utilize the Q-dummy in their injury assessment protocols, and it is also applicable in THOR dummy crash tests. Each sensor is constructed from a soft yet durable cylindrical elastomer bladder filled with a specific fluid and sealed with a mechanical head. The sensor head includes a miniature pressure transducer and signal conditioning electronics. The key design of the fluid-elastomer assembly achieves very high biofidelity and realistic stiffness of abdominal tissue. The ability of restraint systems to meet injury regulation standards is evaluated by recording the pressure within the abdomen during crash impacts. For crash testing, the sensors are inserted vertically in pairs into the abdomen.
