3. Uses: L(+)-Tartaric acid is widely used as an acidulant in beverages and other foods, including wine, soft drinks, candy, bread, and certain gelatinous sweets. Due to its optical activity, it serves as a chemical resolving agent for the resolution of DL-aminobutanol, an intermediate in the production of anti-tuberculosis drugs; it can also be used as a chiral raw material in the synthesis of tartaric acid derivatives. Utilizing its acidity, it acts as a catalyst for resin finishing of polyester fabrics and a pH regulator in the production of oryzanol. Owing to its complexing properties, it is employed as a complexing agent, masking agent, chelating agent in electroplating, desulfurization, pickling, as well as in chemical analysis and pharmaceutical testing, and as a dye resist in printing and dyeing. Because of its reducing nature, it is used as a reducing agent in chemical mirror making and as a developer in photography. It can also complex with various metal ions, making it suitable as a cleaner and polishing agent for metal surfaces.
