Main Uses:
In the pharmaceutical industry, starch is one of the most important raw materials for antibiotics, as nearly all antibiotics are produced using starch fermentation. For example, widely sold antibiotics such as penicillin and cephalosporins, tetracycline, oxytetracycline and chlortetracycline, streptomycin, and various aminoglycoside antibiotics are all produced through industrial microbial fermentation and extraction using starch as a substrate. Additionally, another important use of starch is as a pharmaceutical excipient. In the early days, most tablets produced by pharmaceutical factories used corn starch as a filler and binder.
