Properties: Colorless, white, or off-white powder
Classification: Pharmaceutical grade
Usage:
Cross-linked sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is used as a disintegrant in oral preparations such as tablets, capsules, and granules. It functions through capillary and swelling actions to achieve disintegration. Its characteristics include good compressibility and strong disintegrating ability. In tablet manufacturing processes, it is suitable for both direct compression and wet granulation compression. In wet granulation, cross-linked sodium carboxymethyl cellulose can be added during the wetting stage or the drying stage (intragranular and extragranular addition), but extragranular addition yields better results than intragranular addition. Studies have shown that the swelling capacity of cross-linked sodium carboxymethyl cellulose in water is greater than that of low-substituted sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and hydrated microcrystalline cellulose, among other common disintegrants. Whether added intragranularly or extragranularly, the tablet's friability remains unaffected, and the disintegration time and release efficacy of tablets made with it do not change over time. When used as a disintegrant, the dosage can be up to 5.0% (W/W), but it is typically 2.0% (W/W) in direct compression and 3.0% (W/W) in wet granulation.
Storage: Should be stored in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry place.
