III. Characteristics of Plate Heat Exchangers:
1. High heat transfer coefficient
Plates are made of materials with high thermal conductivity, such as acid-resistant stainless steel, industrial pure titanium, carbon steel, and copper specifically for heat exchangers. Cold stamping forms different corrugated structures, and the plate corrugations enable the fluid to generate turbulence at low flow rates. Therefore, plate heat exchangers have a high heat transfer coefficient. Under the same conditions, their heat transfer coefficient is 3-5 times higher than that of conventional shell-and-tube heat exchangers. The heat transfer area is only 1/3 to 1/4 of that of shell-and-tube heat exchangers.
2. Compact structure

Due to the tight arrangement of heat transfer plates and the small plate spacing, the corrugated surface formed by stamping significantly increases the effective heat transfer area. As a result, a large heat transfer area is accommodated per unit volume, and the footprint is significantly smaller than that of shell-and-tube heat exchangers with the same heat transfer area. Additionally, metal consumption is relatively low, the weight is light, and generally, no special foundation is required. Moreover, no extra space is needed for on-site assembly and disassembly.
3. Reliable and durable

The sealing gaskets of our factory's plate heat exchangers utilize the dual-sealing structure principle, which increases the internal friction between the gasket and the plate, greatly reducing the slippage of the gasket. At the same time, a superior honeycomb-like peripheral rigid structure is adopted to tightly lock the gasket inside, significantly enhancing the overall sealing performance of the heat exchanger.
4. Easy cleaning

The plates, tightly assembled by compression bolts, can be loosened or removed for mechanical or manual cleaning once the bolts are removed. This is very convenient for heat exchange equipment that requires frequent cleaning.
5. Multi-medium heat exchange

If the plate heat exchanger has an intermediate partition plate, one unit can perform heat exchange for three or more (with multiple intermediate partitions) media. Multi-medium heat exchange plate heat exchangers are commonly used in dairy processing. Shell-and-tube heat exchangers cannot achieve multi-medium heat exchange in a single unit.
6. Easy modification of heat transfer area or process combination

Simply adding (or removing) a few plates can achieve the required increase (or decrease) in heat transfer area. Changing the arrangement of the plates or replacing a few plates can achieve the desired process combination to adapt to new heat exchange conditions. This can greatly reduce the total investment cost of the project, further highlighting the economic practicality of plate heat exchangers.
