Aluminum plates are categorized into five basic states: F, O, H, T, and W. These five states represent five different processing techniques and

stages of aluminum plates:

F State

The F state, also known as the free machining state, has no clearly defined mechanical or chemical properties for aluminum plates.

O State

The O state, also referred to as the fully annealed state, has no subdivisions and indicates aluminum plates that have undergone full annealing to achieve low strength.

H State

The H state, also known as the strain-hardened state, represents aluminum plates that have been strengthened through work hardening.

T State

The T state refers to the heat-treated condition of aluminum plates, indicating that the plates have achieved stability through work hardening.

W State

The W state refers to the solution heat-treated condition. It is an unstable state, indicating that the aluminum plate is undergoing natural aging at room temperature

after solution heat treatment. The W state merely signifies that the aluminum plate is in the natural aging stage.
