Diesel generator sets are power generation equipment that primarily uses diesel as fuel. Depending on different regional needs, generator sets are categorized into stationary and mobile trailer types. To reduce the noise generated by the generator set and minimize its impact on people's work and life, designers have developed generator sets with silent canopies. This involves installing a metal enclosure around the generator set, lined with sound-absorbing materials, to shield it on all sides. The enclosure has doors on both sides for easy maintenance and control of the generator set. The silent canopy not only reduces noise but also allows the unit to be placed outdoors. The enclosure acts like a small house, providing sun and rain protection, eliminating the need for a dedicated generator room. Diesel generator sets are divided into prime power and standby power sets, with corresponding prime and standby power ratings. The standard prime power rating of each generator set is typically 80% of the standby power rating. Depending on specific needs: if you usually use the national grid and only need backup during power outages, opt for a standby diesel generator set; if you require long-term operation, choose a prime power diesel generator set. With regular maintenance, a prime power diesel generator set can operate for over 300 days per year. The relationship between prime power and standby power is as follows: for example, if a user needs a 100KW diesel generator set, the prime power of a standby 100KW diesel generator set is 100KW * 80% = 80KW. This means the prime power of a standby 100KW diesel generator set is 80KW. If a silent canopy is added to the diesel generator set, the power output will decrease, typically by about 10%. Power Rating
A diesel generator set is a combination of a diesel engine and a synchronous AC generator. The maximum power allowed for a diesel engine is limited by the mechanical and thermal loads on its components, so the maximum continuous operating power is defined as the rated power.
A diesel engine must not exceed its rated power, as this can shorten its service life and even cause accidents.
National standards specify that the rated power on a diesel engine's nameplate is divided into the following four categories:
1) 15-minute power: The maximum power allowed for the diesel engine to operate for 15 minutes. This is the rated power for short-term overload operation and acceleration performance, such as for automobiles and motorcycles.
2) 1-hour power: The maximum effective power allowed for the diesel engine to operate continuously for 1 hour. Examples include wheeled tractors, locomotives, and marine diesel engines.
3) 12-hour power: The maximum effective power allowed for the diesel engine to operate continuously for 12 hours, commonly referred to as the rated power. Examples include power station units and diesel engines for engineering machinery.
4) Continuous power: The maximum effective power allowed for the diesel engine to operate continuously for an extended period.
Working Principle
The diesel engine drives the generator to operate, converting diesel energy into electrical energy.
In the diesel engine cylinder, filtered clean air from the air filter mixes thoroughly with high-pressure atomized diesel injected by the fuel injector. Under the compression of the upward-moving piston, the volume decreases, and the temperature rises rapidly, reaching the ignition point of diesel. The diesel ignites, causing the mixture to combust violently and expand rapidly, pushing the piston downward—this is called 'work.' Each cylinder performs work in a specific sequence, and the force on the piston is transmitted through the connecting rod to rotate the crankshaft.
By installing a brushless synchronous AC generator coaxially with the diesel engine crankshaft, the rotation of the diesel engine drives the generator rotor. Using the principle of 'electromagnetic induction,' the generator outputs an induced electromotive force, and a closed load circuit generates current.
Diesel generator sets are a type of self-contained AC power supply equipment, serving as small, independent power generation units that use an internal combustion engine as the prime mover to drive a synchronous AC generator for electricity generation.
Modern diesel generator sets consist of a rigid integral unit comprising a diesel engine, three-phase AC brushless synchronous generator, control panel (cabinet), radiator, coupling, fuel tank, silencer, and common base. The diesel engine's flywheel housing is directly connected to the generator's front end cover axially via a shoulder定位 for integration, and a cylindrical elastic coupling is used to drive the generator directly from the flywheel.
