III. Physical and Chemical Properties:

Yellowish-white powder, odorless and tasteless. This product is a strongly alkaline substance with irritating and corrosive effects. Inhalation of its dust can cause severe irritation to the respiratory tract and may lead to chemical pneumonia. Eye contact results in strong irritation and can cause burns. Accidental fall into a slaked lime pool can cause extensive corrosive burns. Long-term exposure may lead to dermatitis and ulcerative dermatitis.
 

IV. Characteristics and Uses

Primarily used as an environmental neutralizing agent, for sludge drying treatment, and in roadbed engineering where it exhibits slab-like properties with higher strength than gravel surfaces. It has certain water stability and frost resistance, with low initial strength that increases over an extended period. It has high shrinkage and is prone to cracking;

Lime aggregate is suitable for use as a base course for secondary and lower-grade roads and urban sub-arterial roads, as well as a sub-base for various pavement levels. In agriculture: Bordeaux mixture is prepared by combining lime milk and copper sulfate solution in a specific ratio as a pesticide, utilizing copper to eliminate pests and diseases; it adjusts soil acidity and alkalinity—adding an appropriate amount of slaked lime to soil can neutralize acidity and modify its pH. In sugar production, calcium hydroxide is used to neutralize acids in syrup, followed by the introduction of carbon dioxide to convert residual calcium hydroxide into a precipitate that is filtered out, thereby reducing the sour taste of sugar.
