Nonanoic acid

    Colorless oily liquid. The industrial product has a slight characteristic odor. Melting point 11-12.5°C. Boiling point 253°C. Density 0.904-0.910. Refractive index 1.431-1.433. Insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol. It is a raw material for organic synthesis. Uses: Used as a paint drier, plasticizer, and synthetic lubricant. Intermediate for producing detergent bleach activators, used in the production of polyol esters that serve as lubricants for fibers and jet turbines. Production of nonanoyl chloride, nonanoate esters, cholesteryl nonanoate, ethyl nonanoate, etc. Nonanoic acid exhibits a faint fatty and coconut aroma. It is approved as an edible flavoring agent in China's GB2760-86 standard, primarily used to formulate coconut and berry flavors.
