A dust explosion requires five elements; when all five are present simultaneously, the possibility of an explosion arises. The five elements are: oxygen; combustible dust; ignition source; dust cloud; confined space.

Dust explosions are accompanied by powerful shock waves and flames. Since equipment lacks the pressure resistance to withstand such forces, explosions can cause equipment damage, leading to the hazards of secondary or multiple explosions. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize dust explosion protection.

To prevent dust explosions in equipment or to mitigate greater hazards when explosions occur, explosion venting equipment is particularly important.

Venting is one of the common and effective explosion protection methods; it releases pressure during potential industrial explosions and provides a designed pressure release!

Sector-Type Flameless Venting Device Working Principle:

Composed of two parts: an explosion vent panel and a flame extinguishing module. The explosion vent panel responds rapidly to the rising pressure of a deflagration, opening immediately to reduce pressure. When the expanding fireball passes through the open vent panel, it is quenched by the flame extinguishing module. The frame-supported precision stainless steel mesh acts as a three-dimensional flame trap, extinguishing the flame to prevent propagation, thereby avoiding secondary or multiple explosions. The flame extinguishing module eliminates deflagration flames, reduces the temperature of hot gases, and captures burning and unburned dust passing through the open vent panel. Meanwhile, pressure waves or noise generated by production equipment are minimized. As flames pass through the mesh flame arrestor element, heat exchange occurs between the element and the flame, rapidly cooling the high-temperature flame, releasing pressure and smoke. Additionally, pressure waves or noise from production equipment are reduced. In industrial production, the combined use of flameless venting devices and isolation valves not only effectively prevents pressure waves and flame propagation to upstream workshop areas but also curbs the occurrence of secondary explosions, reducing property damage and ensuring personnel safety.

Application Areas:

Widely used in industries such as grain, metallurgy, chemicals, power, light industry, pharmaceuticals, tobacco, machining, and solid waste treatment. Applicable equipment includes cyclone separators, bag dust collectors, dust collectors, cartridge filters, pneumatic conveying systems, rod or ball mills, bucket elevators, dryers and ovens, roller mills, buildings, etc. The device mainly consists of a vent panel and a flame extinguishing mesh. Installed on protected equipment, the vent panel remains sealed during normal operation. Once a dust explosion occurs inside the device, the overpressure acting on the vent panel exceeds its activation pressure, causing the panel to rupture and open along the seams. The explosion pressure is released through the gaps in the flame arrestor mesh, while the flame is quenched by the "quenching" effect of the extinguishing layer, preventing harm to surrounding personnel or equipment from explosion pressure and high-temperature flames. Its structure typically combines a vent panel with an added flame arrestor mesh.

With increasingly strict environmental inspections, safety is receiving more attention. In the past, vent panels were commonly installed on dust collectors to release overpressure from dust explosions. However, such installations indoors are not permitted by safety regulations because they endanger surrounding personnel and equipment. The pressure waves and flames from explosions may cause secondary or multiple explosions, creating greater risks. Therefore, relying solely on explosion vent panels for dust collectors is unreliable. We recommend using flameless venting + isolation technology (a more economical solution) or suppression + isolation technology to protect production safety.

There are three main methods of dust explosion protection: venting, isolation, and suppression.

Venting: Releases explosion pressure in advance through a pressure relief device to protect equipment from damage.

Isolation: Prevents flame propagation by using an isolation valve to block the explosion.

Suppression: A detection device first detects sparks and then activates a fire suppression system to instantly extinguish the fire, preventing the explosion from occurring.
