Uses: Used in medicine as a diuretic and sedative, it enhances the inhibitory processes of the cerebral cortex. In industries such as synthetic fragrances, medicine, and dyes, it serves as a brominating agent, and is also used as a chemical reagent and in the photographic industry.

Properties: Colorless cubic crystals or white granular powder, belonging to the isometric crystal system, odorless, with a salty and slightly bitter taste. It easily absorbs moisture from the air and forms lumps but does not deliquesce. Specific gravity 3.203 (25°C), melting point 747°C, boiling point 1390°C. It is highly soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, its aqueous solution is neutral, and it has electrical conductivity.
