Uses: Used in the production of developing agents for photographic films, intensifiers for negatives, and bleaching agents for color photographs. In medicine, it serves as a nerve sedative, and is also used in the manufacture of special soaps, engraving, lithography, and in the synthesis of crystalline industrial products.

Properties: White crystals, odorless, with a salty and slightly bitter taste. Specific gravity 2.75 (25^oC), melting point 734^oC, boiling point 1435^oC. Soluble in water and glycerol, slightly soluble in alcohol and ether, with slight deliquescence. Aqueous solution is neutral.
