GB/T5976-2006 National Standard Forged Wire Rope Clips for Rotary Drilling Rigs

Precautions for using wire rope clips:
(1) The size of the clip should match the thickness of the wire rope. The inner clear distance of the U-bolt should be 1–3 mm larger than the diameter of the wire rope. If the clear distance is too large, it will be difficult to clamp the rope tightly.
(2) During use, tighten the U-bolt until the wire rope is flattened by about one-third. Since the wire rope deforms under load, the clip should be tightened a second time after the rope is under tension to ensure the connection is secure. To check whether the clip slips after the wire rope is under tension, an additional clip can be installed. Place this clip about 500 mm away from the last clip, leave a section of the rope end bent, and then clamp it together with the main rope. If the clip slips, the bend will be straightened, making it easy to detect and reinforce in time.

(3) The spacing between clips is generally about 6–7 times the diameter of the wire rope. The clips should be arranged in the same direction, with the U-bolt part placed on the side of the rope end and the pressure plate on the side of the main rope.
(4) Correct quantity and method: For wire rope with a diameter ≤18 mm, use at least 3 clips;
For wire rope with a diameter of 18–26 mm, use at least 4 clips;
For wire rope with a diameter of 26–36 mm, use at least 5 clips;
For wire rope with a diameter of 36–44 mm, use at least 6 clips;
For wire rope with a diameter of 44–60 mm, use at least 7 clips;

After installation, check for looseness after one or two loads. In most cases, the nuts need further tightening.
Precautions for using wire rope clips: Do not use them for extended periods. Regularly inspect and retire them; they should not be reused repeatedly.
