The main difference between water-based and oil-based release agents lies in their composition and usage characteristics. Water-based release agents are primarily composed of natural polymer synthetic materials, which can fully dissolve in water and exhibit properties such as resistance to acid, alkali, hard water, strong water solubility, and good stability. Water-based release agents can be diluted with water in any proportion without layering, demulsification, or clumping. They have a long shelf life, high solid content, and excellent dispersibility. They require higher mold temperatures to allow rapid evaporation of the water content. Water-based release agents are widely used in industries such as cultured stone, concrete, gypsum lines, and epoxy resin, offering advantages such as facilitating automated operations, effective cooling, no accumulation, and improved surface quality of castings. Oil-based release agents, on the other hand, are primarily composed of organic solvents, free of CFA, environmentally friendly, non-toxic, non-corrosive to products and molds, and do not affect secondary processing of products, leaving no oily residue on the surface. Oil-based release agents are particularly suitable for the molding of large plastic shell products, offering benefits such as quick release, multiple release cycles, improved product quality, enhanced glossiness, and increased production efficiency. Oil-based release agents generally cannot be diluted with water and require solvents like dichloromethane, petroleum ether, or gasoline for dilution based on the oil content ratio.

Differences in Application Areas Due to the differing properties of oil-based and water-based release agents, their application areas also vary. 1. Suitable Materials Oil-based release agents are suitable for molds made of metal, rubber, plastic, and other materials, especially in high-temperature and high-humidity environments where they provide better isolation effects. Water-based release agents are suitable for molds made of paper products, wood, glass, and other materials, offering better protection for products made from these materials. 2. Suitable Processes Oil-based release agents are suitable for processes such as die-casting, injection molding, and blow molding, where they provide better isolation and protection.
