Characteristics of water-based release agent

Water-based release agents are also water-soluble release agents, meaning the internal components of the release agent can completely dissolve in water. Emulsions of compounds such as methyl silicone oil are commonly used in industry. The emulsion is water-soluble and can achieve high heat resistance, easy cleaning, good corrosion resistance and fire resistance, minimal environmental pollution, and relatively safe transportation and storage.

Due to the high water content, water-based release agents differ in many aspects from traditional oil-based or solvent-based release agents. The demolding effect of water-based release agents depends on a film only a few micrometers thick deposited on the cavity surface after spraying. Therefore, there are higher requirements for the selection of components and the use of processes. However, its advantages are also obvious, such as facilitating automated operation, good cooling effect, no scaling, improved surface quality of castings, reduced internal pores, safe use, clean production, and reduced environmental pollution.

Precautions for using water-based release agents
1. Dilute with water (dilution ratio 3-10 times as appropriate), and stir evenly. The dilution ratio can also be adjusted according to on-site needs. Try to use the diluted mixture all at once.
2. Apply with a spray gun or roller brush. After applying the release agent, wait until the mold is completely dry before pouring concrete.
3. Clean the surface of the formwork or mold before applying.
4. Store at room temperature, protect from freezing and direct sunlight. After opening, ensure the lid is sealed tightly for storage.
5. Avoid construction during rain. If the applied release agent is washed away by rain, reapply before continuing construction.
6. Packaging specification: 50KG drum.

The basic formula of water-based release agents typically includes the following main components:

‌Base materials‌: such as‌ paraffin, ‌stearic acid, ‌vegetable oil, ‌emulsified wax liquid, ‌methyl silicone oil emulsion, ‌modified silicone oil emulsion, etc.

‌Emulsifier‌: Used to evenly disperse the base materials in water to form a stable emulsion.

‌Water‌: Acts as a carrier, usually making up the majority of the formula.

‌Additives‌: Such as preservatives, antifungal agents, etc., used to improve the stability and service life of the release agent.

Specific formula examples

‌Paraffin, stearic acid, vegetable oil, co-emulsifier, potassium hydroxide, etc.‌

Heat paraffin, stearic acid, co-emulsifier, and auxiliary oily raw materials to 60–80°C to melt. Then heat water, alkaline agent, and auxiliary aqueous raw materials to 80–90°C. Slowly add the aqueous phase to the oil phase under vigorous stirring, stir until room temperature, and obtain a white oil-in-water emulsion.

‌Polyurethane water-based release agent‌

The formula includes emulsified wax liquid 10%–15%, methyl silicone oil emulsion 15%–20%, modified silicone oil emulsion 5%–8%, deionized water 50%–55%, emulsifier 4.5%–6%, additives 0.5%–1%, preservative 0.3%–0.5%.
