Methyl benzoate, also known as methyl benzoate, can be chemically regarded as the product of methanol alcoholysis of benzoic acid, benzoic anhydride, or benzoyl chloride. It is a colorless transparent liquid. Miscible with methanol and ethanol; insoluble in water. Industrially, it can be used as an organic synthesis intermediate, solvent, and fragrance. It has a strong aroma of wintergreen oil and ylang-ylang oil, used in formulating perfume fragrances and artificial essential oils; also widely used in food. Main uses: 1. Used as a fragrance, with a strong aroma of wintergreen oil and cananga oil, to formulate artificial ylang-ylang oil and evening primrose oil for soaps and cosmetics. 2. Food flavoring, used to formulate strawberry, pineapple, cherry, rum, and other flavors. 3. Used in formulating rose-type, geranium-type, and other fragrances, and also as a solvent for cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, resins, rubber, etc. 4.
