Steel-lined PE storage tanks and PE-lined acid solution tanks have been used domestically for approximately 20 years. Our company began researching and developing this new anti-corrosion product—steel-lined plastic storage tanks—in the mid-1990s. During the R&D process, we encountered various challenges, such as the separation between the steel body and the plastic lining, the specifications of the turtle mesh, the thickness of the plastic lining, nozzle design, and lining issues. Through our research, we resolved these technical problems, contributing to the development of steel-lined plastic storage tanks both then and now. This R&D technology is still used by many steel-lined plastic storage tank manufacturers today. The volume of horizontal steel-lined plastic storage tanks ranges from 3 to 150 cubic meters (the maximum limit for road transportation). Tanks of 150 cubic meters are more difficult to transport and have an asymmetrical diameter-to-height ratio, so it is more appropriate for users to choose vertical steel-lined plastic storage tanks with a maximum volume of 150 cubic meters. Depending on the volume of the horizontal steel-lined plastic storage tank, the external Q235B steel plate thickness is generally 6-12mm, and the internal polyethylene anti-corrosion layer is 15-18mm.

1.        When transporting, installing, or hoisting steel-lined plastic storage tanks, if there are lifting lugs, slings should be attached to the lugs for hoisting. If there are no lifting lugs, slings should be wrapped around the tank body for hoisting. Avoid impact and deformation during hoisting.

2.        Vertical steel-lined plastic storage tanks can be placed directly on a flat and solid foundation, while horizontal steel-lined plastic storage tanks must be placed on a fixed concrete foundation.

3.        The substances or solutions stored in steel-lined plastic storage tanks must be compatible with polyethylene (refer to the table below for guidance).

First, determine whether the stored solution is compatible with polyethylene. Although no substance can dissolve polyethylene, a few substances, such as benzene, **, halogenated hydrocarbons, and low-grade esters, can cause swelling over prolonged storage. Therefore, these should not be used. For substances not documented, small-scale tests can determine suitability. Generally, immerse a sample of our factory's polyethylene in the solution at working temperature for one week. If no dissolution or swelling occurs on the surface, the solution can be considered suitable.

2.       Accessories such as valves, level gauges, level tubes, agitators, and thermometer sleeves should have physical and chemical properties similar to polyethylene and be resistant to the stored solution.

3.       When selecting a tank, consider the working pressure, temperature, and liquid specific gravity. Generally, all-plastic storage tanks operate at room temperature and pressure with a specific gravity below 1.2. In special cases, temperatures can be up to 60°C, and small volumes can withstand 1-2 kg/cm² hydraulic pressure. The maximum specific gravity for vertical tanks is 1.3, and for horizontal tanks, it is 1.5. For steel-lined plastic storage tanks, the typical working environment is room temperature and pressure with a specific gravity below 1.3. In special cases, temperatures can be up to 80°C, and they can withstand 2-3 kg/cm² hydraulic pressure. The maximum specific gravity for vertical tanks is 1.5, and for horizontal tanks, it is 1.8.

4.       When selecting a tank, pay attention to the type and shape. All-plastic or steel-lined plastic storage tanks are categorized as vertical (flat-bottom, cone-bottom) or horizontal.

5.       Difference between flat-bottom and cone-bottom vertical tanks: Flat-bottom vertical tanks are not suitable for semi-solid crystalline suspensions (difficult to discharge), while cone-bottom vertical tanks can accommodate semi-solid crystalline suspensions.

Hot-rolled PE-lined high-level tanks are coated with anti-corrosion paint for protection before leaving the factory. There are two types of anti-corrosion paint: simple and enhanced. To avoid damage to the paint during transportation and installation, most users opt for simple anti-corrosion paint coating.
