Laser quenching is a process that uses high-power density laser to heat the surface of a metal workpiece and then rapidly cool it. Also known as pulsed laser quenching, it is a new technology. This technique was proposed in the 1960s and is referred to as "laser surface strengthening." It utilizes high-power density, high-brightness pulsed radiation generated by a pulsed laser to irradiate the metal workpiece surface with laser pulses. Due to the extremely high power density, the laser pulse can heat the metal surface to a temperature above (approximately 1000 degrees) and rapidly harden it. Because a large amount of energy is absorbed, the metal surface layer quickly softens. During the cooling process, the workpiece surface is heated to a temperature below the quenching temperature (approximately 500-700 degrees). This process is highly effective for quenching metal workpieces.
Main characteristics of laser quenching technology:
1. Higher energy density is used, with fast cooling speed, and no need for cooling media such as water or oil;
2. Fast heating speed, minimal workpiece deformation, easy control of heating layer depth and heating trajectory, easy automation, no need to design corresponding induction coils for different part sizes as in induction quenching, and no limitations from furnace size for chemical heat treatments like carburizing quenching when processing large parts;
3. No quenching media required, environmentally friendly and pollution-free;
4. Easy to automate; capable of rapidly strengthening large metal parts;
5. Laser quenching can significantly alter the microstructure and properties of the workpiece surface layer within a range of 0.1~2.0mm.
Application of laser quenching technology on steel:
Laser quenching is flexible, stable in quality, precise in positioning, with minimal workpiece deformation and low stress, making it suitable for fields such as mechanical manufacturing, metallurgy, coal mining, petroleum, petrochemicals, and aerospace. The laser quenching depth is generally 0.8~1.0mm, with hardness 2~3 HRC higher than traditional quenching. The laser quenching equipment developed by Guosheng Laser can achieve a quenching depth of up to 2mm. For example, the quenching depth for large valve seats is 1-3mm. The quenching depth for 75CrMo rollers is 2mm, with hardness increased from HS40 to HS85, and service life extended by 6 times. The three-dimensional curved surface laser hardening layer of steam turbine blades has uniform depth and hardness, controllable between 0.2~0.8mm, and hardness controllable between HV400~490. The service life of corrugated rollers after laser quenching is increased by 5 times.
Xi'an Guosheng Laser Quenching Equipment uses advanced lasers, high-end industrial robots, and control systems to form a multi-axis flexible laser processing system. Customized specialized models are developed based on the shape of the parts and process requirements. They have now developed eight-axis quenching equipment and mobile laser quenching equipment, making it more convenient to process and repair workpieces that cannot be moved.
The company has a complete range of laser equipment, advanced processes, scientific testing methods, standardized quality management, and has passed ISO quality management system certification. It undertakes various laser quenching processing businesses, including rollers, shafts, gears, molds, valves, and other products. All are welcome to inquire and visit.
