Function and Application Areas
If there are several surge protectors in the power grid, they will interact with each other, meaning that energy coordination must be achieved between parallel protectors. The coordination effect ensures that when a surge overvoltage is caused by lightning, the surge protector (Class B) will respond reliably, diverting high-energy currents to protect other surge protectors (Class C or D) from damage due to overload.
The decoupler LC 63 guarantees coordination between two levels of SPDs. This device establishes effective coordination between spark gap-type lightning protectors (Class B) and varistor-based surge protectors (Class C). The decoupler also ensures coordination between different classes of NPE protectors.
The OBO MC50-B VDE requires the installation of the LC 63 decoupler only when the distance (bus length) between the zoning interface and the Class C surge protector does not exceed 5 meters. Under these conditions, the natural inductance provided by the conductor line is insufficient, and the correct approach is to connect a decoupler between protectors operating in different ways.
Typical application scenarios include: surge protectors compactly installed in a separate enclosure, or Class B and Class C surge protectors installed together in a distribution box. Particularly suitable for small equipment rooms, such as communication base stations or financial outlet distribution boxes.
Superior energy coordination characteristics stem from the optimally set inductance. The bar coil conductor has a large cross-section, resulting in low DC resistance and minimal temperature rise during normal operation.
Installation
The LC 63 decoupler is designed to clip onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail. Wires are connected to the integrated terminals inside the housing, and it is installed in series within the power supply line.
