Feature Overview MCD 50-B MCD 125-B/NPE Advantages of Use
| Low protection level (Up ≤ 1.3 kV) | No need to design decoupling devices or maintain installation spacing between Class B and Class C surge protective devices. |
| Compact EMC structure | Saves over 45% of installation space |
| In TT and TN-S systems, when installed with Class C surge protective devices, MCD 125-B/NPE can be shared for both Class B and Class C surge protection. | Cost and installation space savings |
Function and Application Areas
Surge protective devices MCD 50-B and MCD 125-B/NPE meet the requirements of DIN VDE 0675 Part 6 (Draft 11.89) A1, A2 for Class B devices, as well as the standards of IEC 61643-1 (02.89) for Class Ι surge protective devices. When used in conjunction with subsequent voltage-limiting surge protective devices, no decoupling devices are required, allowing the two levels of protection to be installed together. This product represents OBO's latest development in multi-electrode graphite stacking technology for spark gap surge protective devices.
MCD 50-B, with its low protection voltage level (Up ≤ 1.3 kV), ensures that no decoupling devices or installation spacing between Class B and Class C surge protective devices are needed. This saves over 45% of installation space, making MCD 50-B particularly beneficial for compact Z-MC concepts. Additionally, the NPE discharge gap MCD 125-B/NPE, with its high current-carrying capacity, can serve as the NPE protection module for both Class B and Class C surge protective devices in TT and TN-S systems, saving costs and installation space.
The primary application environments for the new MCD 50-B and MCD 125-B/NPE surge protective devices are those requiring compact lightning protection concepts or the installation of both Class B and Class C surge protective devices in a single small equipment room. Examples include mobile and microwave communication base stations.
Installation
The housing dimensions of MCD 50-B and MCD 125-B/NPE meet the space-saving 17.5 mm width module requirement, making the devices easy to install. The SPD is conveniently installed by snapping onto a 35 mm DIN rail. MCD 125-B/NPE provides two terminals for the N and PE lines, facilitating Kelvin connections between the SPD and the circuit.
