Additional Information

This product is a semi-solid mixture of various hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum and subjected to a decolorization process.
Description: This product appears as a white to slightly yellow, uniform, ointment-like semi-solid.
It is slightly soluble in ether and almost insoluble in ethanol or water.
Relative Density: The relative density of this product (General Rule 0601) is 0.815 to 0.880 at 60°C.
Dropping Point: Take an appropriate amount of the product, heat to 120°C ± 2°C, stir until uniform, then cool to 105°C ± 2°C; heat a metal grease cup in an oven to 105°C ± 2°C, remove and place on a clean flat plate or tile, quickly pour in a sufficient amount of the melted sample to completely fill the metal grease cup; allow the metal grease cup to cool on the flat plate for 30 minutes, then place at 25°C for at least 4 hours, remove, and use a blade to level the surface of the sample in one direction; insert the metal grease cup into the dropping point apparatus for measurement. The measured value should be within the labeled range.
Cone Penetration: Take an appropriate amount of the product, melt at 85°C ± 2°C, and determine according to the Cone Penetration Test Method (General Rule 0983). The measured value should be within the labeled range.
Identification: (1) Take 2.0g of the product, melt, add 2ml of water and 0.2ml of 0.05mol/L iodine solution, shake, cool; the upper layer should appear purplish-pink or brown.
(2) The infrared absorption spectrum (film method) of this product should be consistent with that of the reference standard (General Rule 0402).
Tests: Acidity or Alkalinity: Take 35.0g of the product, place in a 250ml beaker, add 100ml of water, heat to a slight boil, stir for 5 minutes, allow to stand and cool, separate the aqueous layer, add 1 drop of phenolphthalein indicator solution; it should be colorless; then add 0.10ml of methyl orange indicator solution; it should not show a pink color.
Color: Take 10.0g of the product, place in a beaker, heat in a water bath to melt, transfer to a color comparison tube, and compare with an equal volume of reference solution (take 0.2ml of copper sulfate solution for color comparison and 7.8ml of color comparison solution, mix well, take 2.5ml of the mixture, add water to 25ml); it should not be darker.
Absorbance of Impurities: Dissolve the product in trimethylpentane to prepare a solution containing 0.50mg per 1ml, and determine the absorbance at 290nm according to the Ultraviolet-Visible Spectrophotometry (General Rule 0401); the absorbance should not exceed 0.50.
Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: Take 1.0g of the product, place in a separatory funnel, dissolve in 50ml of n-hexane, extract by shaking with dimethyl sulfoxide twice, 20ml each time, combine the lower layers, add 20ml of n-hexane, shake for 1 minute, take the lower layer, place in a 50ml volumetric flask, dilute with dimethyl sulfoxide to volume, mix well, as the test solution. Take 10ml of dimethyl sulfoxide and 25ml of n-hexane, shake, separate layers, take the lower layer as the blank solution. Separately, take an appropriate amount of naphthalene reference standard, prepare a solution containing 6μg per 1ml with the blank solution as the reference solution, according to Ultraviolet-Visible Spectrophotometry (General Rule 0401), measure the absorbance of the test solution in the range of 260 to 420nm; the maximum absorbance should not exceed the absorbance of the reference solution at 278nm.
Sulfides: Take 3.0g of the product, test according to the method (General Rule 0803); it should comply with the requirement (0.00017%).
Organic Acids: Take 20.0g of the product, add 100ml of neutral dilute ethanol (neutral to phenolphthalein), stir and heat to boiling, add 1ml of phenolphthalein indicator solution and 0.40ml of sodium hydroxide titration solution (0.1mol/L), stir vigorously; it should show a red color.
