Octanol

1-Octanol is an organic compound with the molecular formula C8H18O and a molecular weight of 130.22800. It appears as a colorless, transparent oily liquid with a strong greasy odor and citrus notes. As a saturated fatty alcohol, it acts as a T-type calcium channel (T-channels) inhibitor, with an IC50 of 4 μM for native T-currents. It is also an attractive biofuel with diesel-like properties and is used in fragrances, cosmetics, and more.

Applications
Primarily used in the production of plasticizers, extractants, stabilizers, as well as a solvent and intermediate for fragrances. In the plasticizer industry, "octanol" generally refers to 2-ethylhexanol, which is a large-scale industrial raw material produced on a million-ton scale and holds significantly higher industrial value than 1-octanol. 1-Octanol itself is also used as a fragrance, blending in floral scents such as rose and lily, and as a soap fragrance. It is approved as a food flavoring agent under China's GB2760-86 standards, mainly used to formulate coconut, pineapple, peach, chocolate, and citrus flavorings.
