Ultrapure water systems are water treatment equipment that employs methods such as pretreatment, reverse osmosis technology, ultrapurification treatment, and post-treatment to almost completely remove conductive media from water, as well as reduce non-dissociating colloidal substances, gases, and organic matter to very low levels. 1. Feed water: Tap water, ordinary distilled water, or ordinary deionized water can be used as feed water.
2. Mechanical filtration: Sand core filter plates and fiber columns remove mechanical impurities such as rust and other suspended solids.
3. Activated carbon filtration: Activated carbon is a broad-spectrum adsorbent that adsorbs gas components like residual chlorine in water, as well as bacteria and certain transition metals that can damage reverse osmosis membranes, so they should be removed as much as possible.
4. Reverse osmosis membrane filtration: Removes over 95% of electrolytes and macromolecular compounds, including colloidal particles and viruses. The removal of most ions significantly extends the lifespan of ion exchange columns.
5. UV digestion: Short-wave (180nm-254nm) ultraviolet irradiation decomposes small organic compounds, such as methanol and ethanol, which are not easily adsorbed by activated carbon, converting them into CO2 and water to reduce TOC levels.
6. Ion exchange unit: Mixed ion exchange beds are a decisive method for removing ions from water. Obtaining ultrapure water through multi-stage mixed beds is not difficult. However, the TOC level mainly comes from the resin bed. Therefore, high-quality ion exchange resin is critical. High-quality resin refers to resin with excellent chemical stability, no decomposition, and free of oligomers, monomers, and additives. "Nuclear-grade resin" likely falls into this category. The higher the quality of the resin, the better.
7. 0.2μm membrane filtration removes particles in the water to 1 per milliliter (less than 0.2μm). The water produced after these steps is ultrapure water, suitable for various instrumental analysis, high-purity analysis, and measurements.
