【Quality Standard】

【Properties】Commonly known as saltpeter or niter. Colorless transparent rhombic or trigonal crystal particles or white powder. Soluble in water, dilute ethanol, glycerol; insoluble in anhydrous ethanol. Solubility in water increases sharply with rising temperature. Decomposes at 400°C releasing oxygen. Non-hygroscopic in air.
Hazard Characteristics: Strong oxidizer. Can intensify fire when in contact with combustibles. Risk of combustion when mixed with organic materials, reducing agents, flammables such as sulfur, phosphorus, etc. Releases toxic nitrogen oxide gases during combustion decomposition. Decomposes when heated, releasing oxygen.
Firefighting Methods: Firefighters must wear anti-poisoning gear and full-body firefighting suits, and fight fire from upwind. Use water fog, sand. Avoid directing water stream onto molten material to prevent severe flowing fire or violent splashing.
【Applications】Mainly used in fireworks, matches, fuses, candle wicks, tobacco, color TV picture tubes, pharmaceuticals, chemical reagents, catalysts, ceramic glazes, glass, compound fertilizers, and as foliar spray fertilizer for economic crops such as flowers, vegetables, fruit trees, etc. Also used as an auxiliary material in metallurgy and food industries.
【Storage Precautions】Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. Warehouse temperature should not exceed 30°C, relative humidity not exceeding 80%. Separate from reducing agents, acids, flammable/combustible materials, and active metal powders. Avoid mixed storage. Storage area should be equipped with suitable materials for containing leaks.
