Properties:
Colorless transparent flammable liquid, smoking in air. Has a special irritating odor. Vapor irritates the eye mucosa and causes tearing. Soluble in ether, chloroform, benzene, and carbon disulfide. Gradually decomposes upon contact with water, ammonia, or ethanol. Melting point: -1.0°C, boiling point: 197.2°C, relative density (water=1) 1.22, relative density (air=1) 4.88, vapor pressure: 0.13 kPa at 32.1°C, flash point: 68°C.

Uses:
Used as a raw material in organic synthesis, dyes, and pharmaceuticals, for manufacturing initiators such as dibenzoyl peroxide, tert-butyl peroxybenzoate, and pesticide herbicides. In the field of pesticides, it is an intermediate for the novel inducible insecticide Isoxathion (Karphos). Benzoyl chloride is an important benzoylation and benzylation reagent. Most benzoyl chloride is used to produce benzoyl peroxide, followed by its use in the production of important chemical raw materials such as benzophenone, benzyl benzoate, benzyl cellulose, and benzamide. Benzoyl peroxide is used as a polymerization initiator for plastic monomers, a catalyst in the production of polyester, epoxy, and acrylic resins, a self-curing agent for glass fiber materials, a cross-linking agent for silicone-fluorine rubber, and for oil refining, flour bleaching, fiber decolorization, etc.
