DMEA is miscible with water in any proportion and also soluble in most organic solvents.

Applications:
1. Coatings, Paints, Inks: Primarily used in water-based coatings, inks, and electrophoretic paints, including both cathodic and anodic electrophoretic paints. Dimethylethanolamine serves as an efficient amine neutralizing agent, functioning as a pH adjuster, stabilizer, and co-solvent.
2. Water-Soluble Coating Resin Synthesis: DMEA is highly suitable for neutralizing free acidity in water-soluble coating resins.
3. Polyurethane Foaming and Coatings: Tertiary amine catalysts are particularly effective in promoting the catalytic reaction between isocyanate and water. Adding DMEA in the production of insulating foam PU adhesives can effectively reduce overall costs. It is also commonly used in polyurethane elastomers as both an auxiliary catalyst and a reactive catalyst. In polyurethane foams, it can be applied in formulations for both flexible and rigid polyurethane foams.
4. Resins: Epoxy Resins - DMEA is an effective multipurpose curing agent. Acrylic Resins - Water-soluble DMEA salts are used to improve the water resistance of coatings or films.
5. Water Treatment, Gas Treatment: DMEA is an intermediate in the production of (methyl)acrylic acid dimethylaminoethyl ester. Water-soluble copolymers formed from this ester and acrylamide are highly useful flocculants.
6. Ion Exchange Resins: Resin Synthesis - Reacting with chloromethyl vinyl or styrene resins can produce anion exchange resins.
