Fluoroelastomer Sealing Ring Introduction:
Fluoroelastomer is a copolymer of vinyl fluoride and hexafluoropropylene. Depending on its molecular structure and fluorine content, the chemical resistance and low-temperature performance of fluoroelastomer vary. Fluoroelastomer is renowned for its excellent flame retardancy, superior airtightness, high-temperature resistance, ozone resistance, weather resistance, oxidation resistance, resistance to mineral oil, fuel oil, hydraulic oil, aromatic compounds, and many organic solvents and chemicals.
For general grades, the operating temperature for static sealing is limited to approximately -26°C (-15°F) to 282°C (450°F), although it can still be used for short periods at 295°C, but its service life will shorten when the temperature exceeds 282°C. For dynamic sealing, the suitable temperature range is between -15°C and 280°C. Low temperatures can reach -40°C.

I. Precautions for Using FKM (VITON) Fluoroelastomer O-rings
Fluoroelastomer has excellent physical and chemical properties, including high-temperature resistance, oil and wear resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and good aging and ozone resistance. It can operate at temperatures up to 200°C or below, allowing short-term operation without oil. Even under extremely harsh conditions, it maintains excellent wear resistance. FKM O-rings made from DuPont VITON raw materials exhibit even more outstanding performance. Under normal working conditions and temperatures below 220°C, fluoroelastomer is very stable and harmless. However, when exposed to high temperatures above 300°C, such as from a gas cutting torch, fluoroelastomer can release harmful gases. Inhaling these gases or getting them into the eyes can harm human health. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that fluoroelastomer sealing rings are not used significantly beyond their normal operating temperature.
II. FKM (VITON) Fluoroelastomer O-rings
We know that sealing rings rely on external force deformation to generate rebound force for sealing. The elasticity and tensile strength of rubber are crucial indicators of sealing ring quality. Yongxin Sealing uses imported rubber materials and advanced production processes to ensure high elasticity and excellent tensile strength of sealing rings. Rubber elasticity is generally expressed by rebound rate, and sometimes by elongation and permanent deformation; imported materials have high elongation, low permanent deformation, and high elasticity. High elasticity is mainly related to molecular weight, conformational entropy of coiled molecules, crosslink density of vulcanized rubber, and the type of crosslinks. Higher molecular weight of rubber is beneficial for improving elasticity. Moderate crosslinking can reduce or eliminate slippage between molecular chains, which is conducive to improving elasticity. Additionally, polysulfide bonds with lower bond energy and less restraint on molecular chain movement result in better rebound elasticity.
III. Stretching and Compression of FKM (VITON) Fluoroelastomer O-rings
Stretching and compression are the two basic forms of O-ring installation in grooves. The compression force is determined by the initial deformation degree of the O-ring and the hardness of the sealing material. Yongxin Sealing's imported rubber materials fundamentally ensure various parameters of the sealing products, including good stretching and compression indices. When used as "inner circle sealing," the maximum circumference compression of the rubber ring is 1%. Exceeding this limit will affect the working life of the rubber ring. When used as "outer circle sealing," the inner diameter after stretching should be larger than the outer diameter of the groove, with a maximum elongation of 3% (inner diameter > 50mm) or 5%. If the pressure comes from the inside, the outer diameter of the sealing ring should contact the outer diameter of the groove (with circumference compression less than 1%). If the pressure comes from the outside, the inner diameter of the rubber ring should contact the inner diameter of the groove, with a maximum allowable stretch of 3%.

O-ring Performance Introduction:
O-ring sealing rings refer to rubber rings with an "O"-shaped cross-section. They are widely used in hydraulic and pneumatic transmission systems. Groove Design Reference:
The O-ring in the groove will deform under the drive of medium pressure, and the edge part of the O-ring will flow into the gap position to achieve the sealing function of the O-ring. The greater the pressure on the O-ring, the greater the deformation, resulting in better sealing effect. When the pressure on the O-ring exceeds its承受较限, the O-ring will be squeezed into the gap, causing sealing failure. Therefore, the design of the O-ring groove must be reasonable.
