Coated O-rings, also known as fluorinated O-rings or coated O-rings, are sealing components consisting of a relatively thick inner core made of materials such as silicone rubber or fluoroelastomer, combined with a relatively thin outer coating of PTFE/FEP/PFA or other materials. This product combines the elasticity and sealing properties of O-ring rubber materials with the chemical resistance of PTFE, FEP, PFA, and other materials, offering excellent sealing performance. Material Description
FEP and PFA outer coating materials are essentially very similar, but PFA has better high-temperature resistance than FEP. The applicable temperature range for FEP is -60°C to 205°C, while for PFA it is -60°C to 260°C.

Fanpu Seal (full name: Fanpu Coated Sealing Ring, also known as Coated O-Ring or Fluorinated O-Ring) combines the elasticity and sealing properties of rubber with the chemical resistance of PTFE.
It consists of a silicone or fluoroelastomer inner core and a relatively thin FEP or PFA outer coating. Fanpu Seal offers excellent sealing performance.

Rubber O-rings are prone to wear, have poor chemical corrosion resistance, and low gas permeability resistance. Pure PTFE O-rings have high hardness and compression resistance but poor elasticity.
FEP/PFA coated O-rings have excellent anti-swelling and chemical stability (unless exposed to alkali metals, fluorine, and some halides at high temperatures) and exhibit good elasticity near rubber O-rings.
FEP/PFA has a very low friction coefficient (only 0.1~0.2) and excellent gas permeability resistance, making Fanpu Seal suitable for harsh environments.

Solid Fanpu Seal is the preferred choice, widely used in static and dynamic sealing. Hollow silicone rubber Fanpu Seal typically has a larger wire diameter and is used in static sealing, with lower hardness and compression resistance compared to solid Fanpu Seal.

Function:
The seamless and uniformly dense FEP/PFA outer coating combined with the rubber inner core ensures consistent sealing performance of the Fanpu Seal. The elasticity and compression are uniform at every point of the seal.
It can be reinstalled and reused even under continuous pressure. As medium pressure increases, the entire seal is compressed. Fanpu Seal acts like a high-viscosity liquid, transmitting pressure equally in all directions.
Compressibility:
The FEP outer coating provides Fanpu Seal with excellent resistance to hardening and brittleness, while the silicone or fluoroelastomer inner core ensures good elasticity even at 205°C.
A comparison of sealing performance in compression devices among Kalrez rubber, fluoroelastomer, and FEP-coated O-rings shows that Fanpu Seal, combining the physical properties of silicone or fluoroelastomer with the chemical properties of FEP/PFA, maintains rubber performance while offering good compression resistance.

Chemical Corrosion Resistance:
The outer FEP/PFA coating is a fundamental component of Fanpu Seal, providing excellent resistance to chemical erosion. Under normal operating temperatures, FEP/PFA is only affected by a few chemicals. Here, we list only the incompatible chemicals:
—Strong alkali metals, fluorine, and some halides are incompatible with FEP/PFA.
At high temperatures, FEP (recommended limit 204°C/400°F) and PFA (recommended limit 260°C/500°F) may react with high-concentration chemicals, such as 80% NaOH and KOH, metal hydrides like boron hydride (B2H6), aluminum chloride, ammonia (NH3), and some organic compounds containing amino (NH2) and imino (R=NH) groups.
At temperatures up to 250°C/480°F, they may also undergo slow oxidation reactions with 70% nitric acid. Special testing is required for use under these extreme conditions. Apart from these chemicals, Fanpu Seal is generally chemically inert to others.
