How are polycarbonate sheets of various shapes and colors made?
In daily life, we can see polycarbonate sheets everywhere. Many of these sheets come in different shapes and colors. So how are these shapes created? In fact, these shapes are achieved through processing polycarbonate sheets. How are the different colors of polycarbonate sheets achieved? When polycarbonate sheets are produced and sold, there are many colors to choose from, such as lake blue, grass green, transparent, milky white, smoke gray, etc. The coloring process for polycarbonate sheets is relatively simple and is generally achieved by adding colorants.
There are two methods to change the shape. One method involves using a cooling water ring process to shape the polycarbonate sheet. This requires manual control of the water flow rate, so that different parts of the sheet surface experience varying forces, thereby achieving the desired effect. Another method uses a cold air circulation process, but this method is difficult to control manually. If an inexperienced operator performs the processing, it can cause issues on the surface of the polycarbonate sheet. Therefore, the cooling water ring process is generally used in the market for secondary processing of polycarbonate sheets.

Sunlight Panel Product Characteristics:
(1) Light Transmittance: The light transmittance of PC sunlight panels can reach up to about 89%, comparable to glass. UV-coated panels do not easily yellow, fog, or lose transmittance when exposed to sunlight. After ten years, the light transmittance loss is about 10%, while PVC loss rates reach 15–20%, and fiberglass about 12–20%.
(2) Impact Resistance: The impact strength is about 250–300 times that of ordinary glass, about 30 times that of acrylic sheets of the same thickness, and about 2–20 times that of tempered glass. It is known as "unbreakable glass" and "sounding steel."
(3) UV Protection: One side of the PC panel is co-extruded with an anti-UV coating, and the other side has an anti-condensation treatment, combining UV resistance, heat insulation, and anti-fogging functions. It blocks ultraviolet rays and is suitable for protecting valuable artworks and exhibits from UV damage.
(4) Light Weight: The specific gravity is about half that of glass, saving costs for transportation, handling, installation, and support frameworks.
(5) Flame Retardancy: According to the GB50222—95 standard, PC sunlight panels are classified as flame-retardant, i.e., B1 grade. The self-ignition point of PC panels is about 580°C. They self-extinguish after being removed from the flame and do not produce toxic gases or contribute to the spread of fire when burning.
(6) Bendability: They can be cold-bent on-site according to design drawings to form arches, semi-circular roofs, and windows. The bending radius is about 175 times the panel thickness, and they can also be heat-bent.
(7) Sound Insulation: PC sunlight panels have significant sound insulation effects, offering better acoustic insulation than glass and acrylic sheets of the same thickness. Under the same thickness conditions, the sound insulation of PC sunlight panels is about 5–9 dB higher than that of glass. They are the material of choice for highway sound barriers.
(8) Energy Efficiency: Cool in summer and warm in winter, PC sunlight panels have a lower thermal conductivity (K-value) than ordinary glass and other plastics. The heat insulation effect is about 7–25% higher than that of glass of the same thickness, with PC sunlight panels achieving up to about 49% heat insulation. This significantly reduces heat loss, making them suitable for buildings with heating equipment.
(9) Temperature Adaptability: PC panels do not become brittle at -40°C and do not deform at 125°C. Their mechanical and physical properties remain largely unchanged even in harsh environments.
(10) Weather Resistance: PC sunlight panels can maintain the stability of various physical indicators within a range of -40°C to 120°C. After 4,000 hours of artificial weathering tests, the yellowing degree is 2, and the light transmittance reduction is about 0.6%.
(11) Anti-Condensation: When the outdoor temperature is 0°C and the indoor temperature is 23°C, with indoor relative humidity below about 80%, the inner surface of the material does not condense. Condensation will flow along the surface of the panel and not drip.
