How to bend the curvature of hollow polycarbonate sheets
PC sheets are made of polycarbonate material, which has excellent toughness, allowing for significant cold bending. However, please note that the specific bending radius is calculated based on the size and thickness of the sheet. If the sheet is small in size or thick in thickness, it is recommended to use hot bending molding to achieve the desired curvature. Below, we will mainly discuss the cold bending of hollow polycarbonate sheets.
Hollow polycarbonate sheets are flat and do not have waves or curvature naturally. However, since they are made of polycarbonate material with excellent toughness, they can be cold bent. Like a bow, bending is simple and flexible. During installation, you only need to lay the sheet along the curvature of the frame and nail it to create the desired arc. A small number of polycarbonate sheets need to be rolled up for transportation. So, how much can the sheet be bent when rolled? The radius of the rolled polycarbonate sheet should not exceed about 175 times the thickness of the sheet. For example, a 10mm thick sheet can be bent into a roll with a radius of 1.75 meters, an 8mm thick sheet can be bent into a minimum radius of 1.4 meters, and a 6mm thick sheet can be bent into a minimum radius of 1.05 meters. In summary, the minimum bending radius for hollow polycarbonate sheets is 175 times the thickness of the sheet.


Polycarbonate Sheet Product Features:
(1) Light Transmittance: PC sheets can achieve up to 89% light transmittance, comparable to glass. UV-coated sheets do not easily yellow, fog, or lose transparency when exposed to sunlight. After ten years, the light transmittance loss is about 10%, while PVC loses 15-20%, and fiberglass loses 12-20%.
(2) Impact Resistance: The impact strength is about 250-300 times that of ordinary glass, 30 times that of acrylic sheets of the same thickness, and 2-20 times that of tempered glass. It is known as "unbreakable glass" and "sounding steel."
(3) UV Protection: One side of the PC sheet is co-extruded with an anti-UV coating, and the other side has anti-condensation treatment, combining UV resistance, heat insulation, and anti-fog functions. It blocks ultraviolet rays, making it suitable for protecting valuable artworks and exhibits from UV damage.
(4) Lightweight: The density is about half that of glass, reducing transportation, handling, installation, and support frame costs.
(5) Flame Retardant: According to the GB50222—95 standard, PC sheets are classified as flame-retardant (B1 grade). The self-ignition point of PC sheets is about 580°C, and they self-extinguish after being removed from fire. They do not produce toxic gases when burning and do not contribute to the spread of fire.
(6) Bendability: Can be cold bent on-site according to design drawings to form arches, semi-circular roofs, and windows. The bending radius is about 175 times the thickness of the sheet, and hot bending is also possible.
(7) Sound Insulation: PC sheets have significant sound insulation effects, with better acoustic insulation than glass and acrylic sheets of the same thickness. Under the same thickness conditions, the sound insulation of PC sheets is 5-9 dB higher than that of glass. They are the preferred material for sound barriers on highways.
(8) Energy Efficiency: Cool in summer and warm in winter, PC sheets have a lower thermal conductivity (K-value) than ordinary glass and other plastics. The heat insulation effect is 7-25% higher than that of glass, with PC sheets achieving up to 49% heat insulation. This significantly reduces heat loss, making them suitable for buildings with heating systems.
(9) Temperature Adaptability: PC sheets do not become brittle at -40°C and do not deform at 125°C. Their mechanical and physical properties remain stable even in harsh environments.
(10) Weather Resistance: PC sheets can maintain stable physical properties within a temperature range of -40°C to 120°C. After 4000 hours of artificial aging tests, the yellowing degree is 2, and the light transmittance loss is about 0.6%.
(11) Anti-Condensation: At an outdoor temperature of 0°C and an indoor temperature of 23°C with relative humidity below 80%, the inner surface of the material does not condense. Condensation will flow along the surface of the sheet without dripping.
