Adding a UV coating to polycarbonate sheets is crucial. The reason why polycarbonate sheets differ from ordinary panels is their special functions such as UV resistance and anti-aging. Ultimately, this is because a UV coating is added to the polycarbonate sheets, which also plays an important role in extending their service life. During the production and processing of polycarbonate sheets, they are usually treated with a special process where an anti-UV coating is extruded onto the surface of the sheets, thereby reducing the damage and corrosion caused by ultraviolet rays and maintaining good quality.
Since the extrusion of the UV coating requires a separate machine, the cost is relatively high. Some polycarbonate sheet manufacturers directly add UV to the polycarbonate material during production and processing, and some even do not add UV at all, greatly reducing the service life of the polycarbonate sheets. Adding UV to the raw material and applying it to the outer surface of the polycarbonate sheet serve completely different purposes. The UV coating has the function of resisting ultraviolet rays, and applying it to the outer surface of the sheet can fully protect the material from damage, thus ensuring the service life of the sheet. However, if UV is merely mixed into the polycarbonate material, the resistance capability of the UV is weakened, and the dispersed resistance is insufficient to provide protection. Mixing UV into the polycarbonate material compared to applying it to the surface of the polycarbonate sheet reduces the service life by 3–5 years.

Sunlight Panel Product Characteristics:
(1) Light Transmittance: The light transmittance of PC sunlight panels can reach up to about 89%, comparable to glass. UV-coated panels are less prone to yellowing, fogging, and poor light transmission when exposed to sunlight. After ten years, the light transmittance loss is about 10%, while PVC loss rates reach 15–20%, and fiberglass about 12–20%.
(2) Impact Resistance: The impact strength is about 250–300 times that of ordinary glass, about 30 times that of acrylic sheets of the same thickness, and about 2–20 times that of tempered glass. It is known as "unbreakable glass" and "sounding steel."
(3) UV Protection: One side of the PC panel is co-extruded with an anti-UV coating, and the other side has an anti-condensation treatment, combining UV resistance, thermal insulation, and anti-fogging functions. It blocks ultraviolet rays from passing through, making it suitable for protecting valuable artworks and exhibits from UV damage.
(4) Light Weight: The specific gravity is about half that of glass, saving costs in transportation, handling, installation, and support frameworks.
(5) Flame Retardancy: According to the standard GB50222—95, PC sunlight panels are classified as flame retardant, i.e., B1 grade. The self-ignition point of PC panels is about 580°C, and they self-extinguish after being removed from the flame. They do not produce toxic gases when burning and do not contribute to the spread of fire.
(6) Bendability: Can be cold-bent on-site according to design drawings into arches, semi-circular roofs, and windows. The bending radius is about 175 times the thickness of the panel, and it can also be heat-bent.
(7) Sound Insulation: PC sunlight panels have significant sound insulation effects, offering better acoustic insulation than glass and acrylic sheets of the same thickness. Under the same thickness conditions, the sound insulation of PC sunlight panels is about 5–9 DB higher than that of glass. They are the material of choice for sound barriers on highways.
(8) Energy Efficiency: Cool in summer and warm in winter, PC sunlight panels have a lower thermal conductivity (K-value) than ordinary glass and other plastics. The thermal insulation effect is about 7–25% higher than that of glass, with PC sunlight panels achieving up to about 49% thermal insulation. This greatly reduces heat loss, making them suitable for buildings with heating equipment.
(9) Temperature Adaptability: PC panels do not become brittle at -40°C and do not deform at 125°C. Their mechanical and physical properties remain largely unchanged even in harsh environments.
(10) Weather Resistance: PC sunlight panels can maintain the stability of various physical indicators within a range of about -40°C to 120°C. After 4000 hours of artificial weathering tests, the yellowing degree is 2, and the light transmittance reduction is about 0.6%.
(11) Anti-Condensation: When the outdoor temperature is 0°C, the indoor temperature is 23°C, and the indoor relative humidity is below about 80%, the inner surface of the material does not condense. Condensation will flow along the surface of the panel and will not drip.
