Traditional fully open skylights are rarely used in modern residential designs due to the aforementioned drawbacks. They have been replaced by a semi-open design approach: using partial glass or louvered blinds as shading devices to achieve sun protection and thermal insulation.
Electrically operated ventilation skylights are based on natural open ventilation skylights but are equipped with an electric system and opening/closing flaps. When ventilation, air exchange, smoke exhaust, or dust removal are needed, the electrically operated flaps open. When ventilation and smoke exhaust are not required, the electric flaps remain closed, preventing indoor and outdoor air convection.
Ventilation skylights, also known as roof ventilators, natural ventilators, or ventilation louvers, are large ventilation devices commonly used in industrial buildings that integrate ventilation, daylighting, and smoke exhaust. They play a significant role in improving indoor air quality in buildings.
Ventilation and daylighting skylights are high in strength and lightweight. The density of hot-dip galvanized steel pipes is approximately 2.70, compared to the density of steel at 7.85. This reduces the load-bearing capacity requirements of the workshop's indoor floor, making it relatively easier to optimize the foundation. It significantly saves on structural steel usage, conserves material resources, avoids unnecessary waste, and reduces cost consumption.
Low-profile ventilation skylights are named for their short height. The height of low-profile ventilation skylights typically does not exceed 650mm, and they offer excellent wind resistance, making them commonly used in coastal areas prone to typhoons. In addition to high wind resistance, they also provide good ventilation performance.
With increasingly stringent environmental requirements, direct-exhaust skylights are no longer recognized or accepted by environmental authorities. This necessitates continuous technological innovation in products to meet practical needs. Skylights that achieve dust collection and purification through carbon adsorption before emission represent the future mainstream trend. It is believed that future skylights will become more intelligent and environmentally friendly.
