A ventilation skylight is a ventilation device installed on the roof of a factory building, designed for ventilation, air exchange, daylighting, and smoke exhaust. Also known as a ventilation ridge or smoke exhaust skylight, the low-profile skylight is an evolved branch of ventilation skylights with unique characteristics.
According to the national standard atlas, the primary function of smoke exhaust skylights is daylighting, with smoke exhaust as a secondary feature. To prevent damage to the skylight and loss of property inside the factory due to delayed closure, smoke exhaust skylights must be equipped with fire alarm linkage functionality, along with auxiliary monitoring tools such as rain sensors, wind sensors, and smoke detectors. This ensures automatic opening and closing of the skylight under windy or rainy conditions.
The layout of ventilation skylights on the roof can be either horizontal or vertical, which in professional terms are referred to as ridge skylights and slope-aligned skylights, respectively. Ventilation methods are divided into natural open type and electric open-close type. The natural open type, commonly known as direct exhaust skylights, allows indoor heat, stale air, smoke, and dust to be directly expelled outdoors through the skylight opening.
