Trichloroethylene

An excellent solvent, used as a metal surface treatment agent, cleaner before electroplating and painting, metal degreaser, and extractant for fats, oils, and waxes. Employed in organic synthesis and the production of pesticides. Trichloroethylene is used to produce tetrachloroethylene, which serves as an anthelmintic drug; it is also used to produce hexachloroethane, which acts as a veterinary anthelmintic for the prevention and treatment of liver fluke and stomach fluke diseases in ruminants, as well as trematodiasis and nematodiasis.
