Market Background and Necessity

There are large quantities of tailings and slag containing 50%-60% zinc and iron in Northwest China. If not treated, these tailings and slag not only occupy vast amounts of land and cause significant harm to the surrounding ecological environment but also require substantial processing and maintenance costs, representing a huge waste of steel resources. The construction and implementation of this project using microwave high-temperature heating technology can effectively supplement raw material sources for the steel industry, alleviate the pressure of industrial hazardous waste treatment for mining enterprises and mineral processing industries, and positively contribute to improving the living environment of the population.

This project breaks the traditional notion that "waste is useless and harmful," establishing a new scientific concept that "most waste can be utilized and turned into treasure." Transforming waste into valuable resources is the core of this project's technology, which will greatly contribute to the environmental cause of waste utilization and resource regeneration.

I. Technical Application of Microwave in Mining Kilns:

If microwave dezincing and carbon-catalyzed reduction roasting are applied to iron slag tailings, the slag is pelletized and pre-dried and solidified by microwave, then enters the microwave shaft kiln equipment for high-temperature heating to discharge zinc oxide vapor in a negative pressure environment. Simultaneously, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide gases are produced, and the zinc vapor enters the recovery system for collection. After microwave treatment, the metallization rate exceeds 85%, and the dezincing rate is about 95%. This equipment is mainly used for dezincing iron slag and performing carbothermal reduction to produce iron oxide, turning waste into treasure and making it qualified raw material for steelmaking. Utilizing the selective heating characteristics and catalytic effects of microwaves, the iron slag is treated to remove zinc and other components as much as possible, and the iron in the slag is reduced, transforming it into raw material for the steel industry. II. Technical Principles and Features of Microwave Industrial Equipment:

The slag dezincing equipment absorbs microwave thermal energy through the material itself. Because microwaves are extremely high-frequency electromagnetic waves, polar and non-polar molecules in the material become polarized and turn into dipole molecules when exposed to a microwave field. These dipoles align with the electric field direction. Since the electric field is alternating, the dipoles rotate and vibrate with the changes in the electric field. For example, at a frequency of 2450 MHz, they rotate and vibrate 2.45 billion times per second, producing an effect similar to friction between molecules, thereby absorbing the energy of the electric field and generating heat. The material itself becomes the heat source. Microwave heating is a non-contact internal heating method, so the material heats up as a whole. In contrast, traditional heating uses coal, electricity, oil, or gas kilns, which are energy-intensive or produce pollution and exhaust emissions. Their heating methods rely on radiation, convection, and other heat conduction processes from the outside in, resulting in high energy consumption, low efficiency, and long heating times.

Microwaves offer energy efficiency (high conversion to thermal energy, saving over 30% compared to traditional heating methods), environmental friendliness (no external emissions, effectively reducing harmful substances), cleanliness (the material itself absorbs microwaves to generate heat, avoiding contact pollution and improving product quality and yield), and high thermal efficiency (rapid heating, high energy utilization).
