Compared to polysiloxane, fluorinated polysiloxane has slightly lower thermal stability, but its surface energy is significantly reduced, solvent resistance is markedly improved, and it exhibits excellent high and low-temperature resistance, weather resistance, water resistance, and oil resistance. It can be applied in the coatings industry, release agents, finishing agents for paper, textiles, leather, and lubricants, among other fields. Fluorosilicone coatings possess outstanding properties and can be used as anti-fouling coatings for marine vessels and anti-pollution flashover coatings in power systems. Due to their low surface energy and self-cleaning effect, they can serve as protective coatings for solar installations in desert areas. Their low friction properties make them suitable as lubricants and protective coatings for magnetic recording media, as well as protective lens coatings for optical instruments such as cameras and camcorders.
Some researchers have studied the blending of fluorinated acrylic resin with room-temperature curing silicone rubber, along with various additives and fillers, successfully preparing a fluorosilicone anti-pollution flashover coating. The factors affecting the coating's performance were investigated, and tests showed that all performance indicators of this coating meet or exceed national standards for such products. Its mechanical properties are significantly improved compared to currently used RTV coatings, with superior surface properties. Others have used benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as an initiator and toluene as a solvent, employing styrene, methacrylate monomers, fluorinated methacrylates, and methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (KH570) through free radical polymerization to synthesize a fluorinated varnish. This varnish can cure at room temperature to form a film with good hydrophobic surface properties and high hardness, exhibiting excellent water resistance, medium resistance, scrub resistance, and superior stain resistance, making it suitable as an anti-fouling coating.
At the same time, fluorosilicone coatings offer excellent UV resistance, anti-static dust resistance, strong adhesion, no yellowing, room-temperature curing, convenient application, and, most importantly, contain no toxic substances, posing no harm to human health. Wang Sheng et al. copolymerized (meth)acrylic fluorinated esters, compounds containing alkenyl siloxane groups, and olefin monomers, developing the resulting emulsion into a water-based coating. This water-based coating, containing fluorosilicone copolymers, exhibits excellent adhesion to various substrates, and its film demonstrates outstanding acid resistance, alkali resistance, and durability.
