Water for Injection Distribution System

The Water for Injection (WFI) distribution system is primarily used in the pharmaceutical industry to ensure the quality of water for injection and facilitate its rational distribution and usage.

System Composition

- Storage Unit: Typically made of stainless steel tanks to store water for injection, this material helps prevent water contamination. Tanks come in various specifications and are equipped with insulation layers to maintain water temperature within an appropriate range. They also include level gauges to monitor water levels.
- Distribution Piping: Pipes are often made of high-quality 316L stainless steel, which offers excellent corrosion resistance. The pipeline layout must be carefully planned to minimize stagnant areas and prevent microbial growth. The piping system also includes various valves, such as diaphragm valves, which effectively isolate different pipeline sections, facilitating segmented cleaning and maintenance.
- Circulation Pump: Its function is to circulate water for injection within the system, maintaining dynamic water flow and avoiding stagnation. This reduces opportunities for bacterial growth and helps keep water quality compliant for extended periods.

System Functions

- Ensuring Water Quality: Through continuous circulation, maintaining appropriate water temperature, and preventing microbial contamination, the system ensures that water for injection meets strict pharmaceutical standards, such as microbial limits and endotoxin content requirements specified in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.
- Precise Distribution: It accurately distributes water for injection to various usage points based on different production needs, such as formulation tanks and bottle washers in pharmaceutical workshops.

System Maintenance

- Cleaning and Disinfection: Regular cleaning and disinfection of the system are necessary. For example, pure steam sterilization is used to disinfect the interior of pipes and tanks, eliminating potential microorganisms.
- Component Inspection: Periodic checks of components like circulation pumps and valves are conducted to assess their working conditions, identify any leaks or damages, and ensure the system operates normally.
