Styrene

Industrial styrene is produced by the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene (which is a compound of ethylene and benzene extracted from gasoline). This product is transparent, colorless, and flammable.

II. Scope of Application

● Its primary use is as a monomer for synthetic rubber and plastics, used in the production of styrene-butadiene rubber, polystyrene, and expanded polystyrene foam.

● Suitable for copolymerization with other monomers to produce various engineering plastics for different applications.

● Copolymerization with acrylonitrile and butadiene produces ABS resin, widely used in various household appliances and industrial applications. The SAN resin produced by copolymerization with acrylonitrile is an impact-resistant and glossy resin.

● The SBS thermoplastic rubber produced by copolymerization with butadiene is widely used as a modifier for polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, and other materials.
