1. Nano nickel oxide in catalysts: Nano NiO is an excellent oxidation catalyst. Ni²⁺, with its 3d orbitals, tends to preferentially adsorb multi-electron oxygen and activates other reducing gases, catalyzing the reaction with O₂. It is widely used in the decomposition, synthesis, and transformation of organic compounds, such as gasoline hydrocracking, hydrocarbon conversion in petrochemical processing, and heavy oil hydrogenation. Nano NiO also serves as an effective photocatalyst for degrading acid red dyes in organic wastewater treatment.
2. Nano nickel oxide in ceramic additives and glass coloring agents: In ceramic products, nano NiO enhances impact resistance. Adding 0.02 wt% NiO improves electrical properties such as piezoelectric and dielectric performance. In glass, nano NiO is used to control color, particularly in stable brown transparent glass that absorbs ultraviolet light. It is also added as a coloring agent in transparent glass mirrors and decorative glass.
3. Nano nickel oxide in battery materials: With the continuous development of communication and information technology, capacitors have become a research hotspot due to their higher energy density compared to electrostatic capacitors and higher power density compared to traditional chemical power sources. Although ruthenium oxide is a well-studied and high-performance electrochemical capacitor material, its high cost limits large-scale application.
