It optimizes biochemical reaction efficiency by providing a carbon source readily utilizable by microorganisms, particularly suitable for wastewater environments with low carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) or carbon-to-phosphorus (C/P) ratios.

By scientifically combining fast-acting (e.g., sodium acetate) and slow-release carbon sources (e.g., polysaccharides), it balances the immediate and long-term needs of microorganisms.
